Ramon Maurice Maag, Sr., 84, passed away on December 26, 2020 at John Cochran Veterans Hospital. He was born on November 14, 1936 in Jerseyville. He married Hazel Marie Cresswell of Elsah on July 6, 1960. Ramon was drafted into the Army on April 25, 1960. He served as a Specialist-4 crew chief of an H-21 helicopter crew in Korea. He retired from Owens Illinois Glass Works in Alton. He is survived by his wife: Hazel of Jerseyville; their eleven children: Ramon Maag, Jr. (Patti Mulrean) of Kane, Joan Kuebrich of Jerseyville, Joyce Grummel (Steve) of Godfrey, Sheila McGuire (Scott) of Jerseyville, Patrick Maag (Julie Aldridge) of Delhi, Rebecca Bechtold (Joe) of Jerseyville, Edward Maag (Robin Bottom) of Jerseyville, Shannon Maag (Vicky Sharrow) of Jerseyville, Betsy Bemis (Geoff) of Jerseyville, James Maag (Clarissa Underwood) of Jerseyville, Tina Hoffmann (Rob) of Godfrey; their forty-seven grandchildren: Sarah (Dylan) Stark, Katie Maag, Jessica Maag, David Maag, Emily Maag, Cassidy Maag, Leighann Maag, Andrew Kuebrich, Elizabeth Kuebrich, Joshua (Lisa) Grummel, Thomas Grummel, Stephen Grummel, Malinda (Steve) Medford, Jacob (Rachel) McGuire, Molly (Cody) Pennell, Luke McGuire, Ryan Maag, Nichole Maag, Chelsea Maag, Michelle Maag, Erica Bechtold, Lucy Bechtold, Halle Bechtold, Mallory Maag, Maggie Maag, Jayce Maag, Christian Maag, Clancy Maag, Kenna Maag, Alex Wahl, Hope Wahl, Josie Wahl, Michael Wahl, Addie Bemis, Grace Bemis, Matthew Maag, Charlie Maag, Caleb Maag, Tessa Maag, Marcus Hoffmann, Oliver Hoffmann, and Benjamin Hoffmann; their 6 great-grandchildren: Zane Grummel, Bryson Grummel, Johnathan Kuebrich, Kaden Medford, Trey Medford, Myles Medford; and his siblings: Ronald (Joyce) Maag of Golden Eagle and Barbara (Eugene) Beisman of Batchtown; and their many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents: Raymond W. Maag and Freda M. (Schmidt) Maag. A public graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at 11:00 am at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Fieldon with Father Martin Smith and Father Hyland Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Global Foundation for Peroxisomal Disorders in support of his granddaughter Kenna Maag, Holy Ghost Catholic Church, or St. Francis/Holy Ghost Schools.
