Charles Henson Obituary

Charles E. Henson, 92, passed away on August 25, 2021 at Jerseyville Nursing & Rehab. He was born on December 1, 1928 to Edward & Vivian (Todd) Henson in Jerseyville. Charlie was an only child but was surrounded by many special cousins: Robert (Mildred) Scott, Edward (Betty) Scott, Betty (Gene) Niemeyer, and Dale (Marilyn) Scott. He was a US Army veteran. He married Doris A. Mains on April 20, 1952 in Jerseyville at the First Baptist Church. He graduated from Jersey Township High School in 1946. He attended Lakeview College in Alton, Shurtleff College in Alton, and Washington University in St. Louis. Charlie was a manager at National Vinegar in Alton for 47 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Jerseyville since 1947. Charlie had served on Westlake Country Club Board, American Cancer Society Board, Jerseyville Rotary Club and JCBA. He delivered meals on wheels for years. He enjoyed sports, especially golf. Charlie is survived by Don & Debby Wise of Winter Park, Florida, Jay & Lisa Wise of Gahanna, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Doris A. Henson, son: Phillip Henson, brother-in-law: Gene Mains, and sister-in-law: Ethelwynne (W.E.) Wise. Visitation will be held on August 31, 2021 from 9:00 am – 11:00 am at Jerseyville First Baptist Church. Funeral will take place on August 31, 2021 at 11:00 am at Jerseyville First Baptist Church. Rev. Brent Myer will be officiating the service and burial will take place at Oak Grove. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Jerseyville.
